Aksel Pedersen was born on Mors in 1917 and became one of the region’s greatest athletes - Danish champion in 1942 and again runner-up in the 1500 metres in August 1943. A few days later, while selected for the match in Stockholm, the Germans took full control of Denmark. On 29 August 1943 he stood at Malmö Central Station.
After the war he continued as municipal treasurer and in 1970 became Morsø municipality’s very first municipal director. In 1968 he set down those dramatic days himself in the article Nykøbing Mors - the Horserød camp - and back, 1943, printed posthumously in Jul på Mors.
